TRANS/form is a menswear collection that articulates the idea of a double identity within transgender people. This collection explores the conflict between the internal and external identities within transgender individuals, deconstructing the transgender identity into two layers, the inner and outer.
The inner identity refers to the emotional and psychological identity of an individual, while the outer identity refers to the physical appearance that an individual is born with.
This collection concerns the transformation of a trans person, the process of changing from one gender to another. This idea is interpreted through the deconstruction of the male shirt, and combining it with draped elements to create silhouettes that blur the boundaries between the female and male genders. By manipulating the traditional silhouettes within menswear tailoring, this collection is able to change the meaning of dressing like a “man”, providing men with silhouettes that are not typically recognised as being a man.
